About
Built by a fed, for feds.
FedRetireCheck exists to remove the uncertainty from one of the most important financial decisions a federal employee will ever make: when, and how, to retire.
Why this exists
D
I spent 25+ years as a federal employee on mission-critical programs. When it came time to plan my own FERS Special retirement, I still had to burn dozens of hours piecing together OPM handbook chapters, TSP bulletins, and conflicting forum answers just to understand my own benefits. Your agency hands you an annuity estimate, but nobody helps you with the decision around it — which date, which elections, what the supplement really pays, what's irreversible. Nobody should have to reverse-engineer their own retirement to make the biggest financial decision of their life. So I'm building the tool I needed. — Derek, 25+ year Federal employee, FERS Special
What we believe
- Software calculates. People decide. Every number in your report is produced by deterministic, tested software that implements the published federal rules — never estimated or guessed by AI. The same inputs always produce the same outputs, with the work shown.
- We compare, we don't prescribe. Our job is to show you what the rules say and lay your scenarios side by side — "if you retire on date A versus date B, here's the difference." Choosing is yours. We are not financial advisors, and FedRetireCheck is not financial, investment, tax, or legal advice.
- Every figure is traceable. Each number references the OPM, TSP, or SSA rule it comes from, so you can verify everything yourself. We would rather tell you "we can't stand behind this number for your situation" than hand you one we can't cite.
- Privacy first. We ask for the few values needed to run your numbers — not your Social Security number, and not your employment documents. We collect as little as possible and let you delete what we have.
- Independent. FedRetireCheck is a private product. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the U.S. government, the Office of Personnel Management, or the Thrift Savings Plan. Official benefit determinations are made only by OPM.
Who we build for
Federal civilian employees under FERS — including the special provisions for law enforcement officers, firefighters, and air traffic controllers, which most tools treat as an afterthought and we treat as first-class. If you're trying to answer "Can I retire, and what's the smartest way to do it?", you're who we built this for.
See your retirement, side by side.
The FedRetireCheck Readiness Report compares your retirement scenarios with every figure cited to the governing rule.
